The Old Southwest and Midtown are Reno's historic core — tree-lined streets, homes from the 1920s through the 1950s, and the most walkable blocks in the city.
This is where Reno's character lives. Period homes with original detail sit on tree-canopied streets a short walk from the Truckee River, Virginia Lake, and the restaurants and shops along the Midtown stretch of South Virginia.
Inventory is genuinely scarce and turns over slowly. Homes are older, so inspection findings — foundations, knob-and-tube wiring, sewer laterals, original windows — matter far more here than in a 2015 build, and pricing has to account for them.
Buyers who want character and walkability accept the maintenance that comes with a ninety-year-old house. Buyers who want low-maintenance living are usually happier elsewhere.
